Q:
Should I stain my wood deck as soon as it is built? |

No, "New Wood Defender" is recommended on pressure treated wood, as well as Cedar and Redwood during the first year of weathering. Wood Defender is a latex based product used to stabilize new exterior wood. This product is treated with fungicide to prevent the growth of mildew. |

What should I use to clean my deck in the spring? |

Decktergent and Wood Cleaner by Superdeck Brand Products are sodium metasilicate based products to remove oxidized stains and discoloration caused by dirt, mildew and mold. It is recommended for surface preparation before using any type of stain. They can both be used on pressure treated wood, decks, cedar siding, fences, masonry, concrete and stucco. |

What kind of stain should I use on my deck? |

Creative Wood Products has their own private label stain called Deck Gold. Deck Gold is an oil based semi-transparent sealer and stain in one. It is a unique blend of resin, pigment oil, mildewcide and UV protectors that penetrate deeply into the wood to protect and preserve it. Deck Gold can be used on all types of wood except Redwood.
We also carry Superdeck Products, Superdeck is a natural oil, transparent stain designed to maintain the beauty of your wood. It is available in ten natural wood tones for redwood, cedar, pine and fir. Seven natural wood tones for pressure treated wood are also available. |

Q:
I want to build a pond in my back yard, what do I need to know to get started? |

Ponds can be wonderful additions to any landscape but should be carefully planned if your dreams are to become a reality and not a disappointment. We have videos in our showroom to watch that can help you plan and our salespeople can guide you through some of your options. Building a pond today is easier than ever because of high quality, yet inexpensive liners, pumps and filters. First you need to decide how large of a pond you want. We have materials at Creative Wood Products to help you design your pond and give you advantages and disadvantages to help you to plan. Larger ponds are less costly per gallon and require less maintenance. Our salespeople can guide you in choosing items such as size, filters, pumps, rocks, and gravel and skimmers. |
Q:
There are so many different types of bird seed, how do I know what I should buy? |

Different types of seed attract different types of birds the same as a certain type of feeder will attract a certain type of bird, and bird houses are the same. In regards to the seed: cardinals are attracted by black-oil sunflower seeds; chickadees like suet/peanut butter mix; woodpeckers thrive on suet cakes; blue jays love peanuts, goldfinches go for nyjer (thistle) and of course hummingbirds like nectar. Stop into our Showroom and you can learn about what to feed which birds that you want to attract, what to feed them from, what to provide in the way of nesting places and which kinds of plants and trees that attract them.
